Opening weekend?? You better pray hard to those snow gods because usually opening weekend is just a tow rope on front valley... it need one good dump of snow to get the season going properly.

Yeah I've been watching the cams and the snow is really getting washed out now.
Anyone know when to expect that first big dump?
going by this report it looks like june is going to be a bit of a non-event at this stage of the game

This week should warm slightly with a bit of shower activity. This moist air we will see limited snowmaking if any.
Looking further ahead I think we will have to wait til early June for the first decent snowfalls. Some very light falls on the higher areas around the 3rd but nothing to get excited about.
We should see a large band of moisture moving across the mountains around the 8th that looks like bringing showers. There is a possibility of some snow following this if the high pressure system above can weaken and let the cooler air hit the mountains - should know more in a few days.
Mide June could see some more snow around the 16-18th but at this stage this looks like it should only bring light snow. Although a long way away the 20th-22nd looks interesting with possible moderate snowfalls.
SEASON 2010 OUTLOOK: (posted 16th April 2010)
I can say that June and July are pointing towards being wetter than normal with El Nino weakening. I see snowfalls mixed in with some showers before the temps drop slightly at the end June and we start to see colder nights and the likelihood of heavier snowfalls increase dramatically in early July. I think July could one of the best for some time.
Bureau forecasts suggest August being drier than normal but I don't see this as a problem with temps remaining cold enough for long periods so the snowmakers can keep the cover fresh. I still see some good snowfalls in August that should see the depth increase. September should be a lot like 2009 with periods of warm sunny days mixed in with a couple of nice falls of snow that should keep the cover decent enough to have skiing and boarding continuing up to the closing weekend.
Overall I see a good to very good season for the major resorts in regards to snowfalls. With the Spencers Creek snow depth not reaching the 2m mark for the last five years we are well overdue. The longest run of years not reaching the 2m mark previous to that over the last 40 years was three years (1997-1999).

Damn... might save my penny's skip this season and go to Canada early next year instead...
yeah it's not looking fantastic, but hey I'll still head down for the odd weekend if there is decent snow just so I get a bit of a fix before bouncing back over to canada.
