Hi guys, I'm off to Whistler for the first time for the whole 08/09 season and have just bought a brand new ripcurl snowboarding jacket from a store on ebay. The listing said the jacket had fully taped seams, 10000mm waterproof and 8000grs breathability - all good right?
But then when the jacket turned up in the post, the RipCurl tag on it says 6000mm waterproof and 3000MVP breathability!
Its a sick jacket and it fits well, but I'm worried that 6000mm won't cut it in whistler, as this jacket is probably more meant for aussie conditions.
What do you think, am I just worrying about nothing?

I wouldnt wear anything under 10,000 mate.
6,000 will definately soak through in heavy conditions.
If it doesnt meet the description, why dont you get a refund from the ebay seller?

I'm in the process of questioning the seller at the moment.
I sent him an email pointing out that the listing said 10000mm and the tag on the jacket says RT Fortress 6000mm.
He sent a message back saying he's pretty sure its the inner layer thats 6000mm and the out layer is 10000mm, but he's not certain, but he'll try and find out from his supplier.
I've asked him to find out, but have pointed out that there is no mention of 10000mm anywhere on the tag or jacket.

Whistler is different than Aussie though. It doesnt rain, well hardly every. If you want to be warm then you want an insulated jacket or a down jacket. But the lower the waterproofing listing also allows more air (freakin cold air) in also. The jacket would probably work but you might have to layer it up when you are here.

I've got a merino wool thermal and a polar fleece to wear under it. Those plus the 6000mm jacket should be enough to keep me warm in Whistler right?

Sounds like he's talking sh1t. If the jacket was 10,000 why would they put 6,000 on the label. Doesnt make sense.
Like I said, I wouldnt wear a 6000 jacket but I dont like being cold or wet. Each to their own and you may be fine. Have a good time there.

id definately get a refund....never been over to canada before but from what i have heard it gets bloody cold so would definately go for something 10000 plus....
maybe consider if you would've bought the jacket had it been advertised as 6000/3000...

I'm definitely hitting him up for a refund. I would not have bid on the jacket if I'd known it was under 10000mm waterproof.
The same seller has another example of the exact same jacket up on ebay now, still with '10000mm waterproof' in the listing.

(sorry guys, I can't post hotlinks - not up to 15 posts yet!)
In the email he sent me back after getting in touch with his supplier he said:
"The spesification (sic) taken from the Ripcurl website for Snow jacket 'Core' series, the Troops jacket that you bought is no longer available for sale on the website but the spesification (sic) is the same as Ripcurl 'Core-Dub' Snow jacket (we've also sold some of them last week). You can visit h t t p://ripcurl.com.au/index.php?id=297,517,0,0,1,0 "
So basically he's telling me its a 'Core' series jacket (Ripcurl outwear is either 'Ultimate', which are always 10000mm; 'Core', which can be either 10000mm or 6000mm; or 'Rider', which is always 6000mm.
The tag on my jacket is clearly marked as a 'Rider' series jacket, so it's definitely only 6000mm.
I shall point this out to him and see what he says.

Don't take any nonsense from him. He is clearly making things up.
Just demand a refund and tell him if he doesn't agree to one you'll take up the official complaint process on him (which you are guaranteed to win if the jacket was falsely advertised).

Well he's offered me a full refund, so I've sent the jacket back to him, and he's updated the listing of the other one he's selling to show that it is a Rider series jacket, not a Core series, so I think he's pretty honest.
Now the hunt for a new jacket begins all over again :(

Plenty bargains around online mate. Sierra snowboard has last seasons gear for 50% off. If you are just after a 10,000 I'm sure you can find a bargain.

Well the refund has come through, so all in all, apart from the time taken, a good resolution to an ebay problem that could have been much worse with an uncooperative seller.
I don't know how knowledgeable he is with his products though, as he is now selling a RipCurl Core Series 'Dub' jacket (i.e. 10000/8000) and he has listed the waterproof/breathability ratings as 6000/3000.
strange.

being honest...
6000 is DOGSH!T. you will get wet, guaranteed. especially in a place like whistler. personally i would not ride in anything under 20K for whis.
dont worry about insulated, puffy, bla bla bla
what you need is a good shell 20k waterproof or better. goretex is ideal.
in regards to ebay, DEMAND a refund. if not, execute a claim. he has advertised falsely and should not get away with it. what an as$hole!
let us knwo what happens. good luck dude.

if your looking for something cheap, but good.
try the 3CS gear.
I got mine on hotham this season, 20,000 out and 15,000 in. Got that for $330.
It'd probably be cheaper now that most snow places have there winter sales on.
Really good jackets, never felt the cold once.
